It's Easter Sunday, the victorious culmination of a week when we remember the sacrificial death and miraculous resurrection of Jesus. On this Easter afternoon, I saw a simple yet powerful illustration of what it means to fix our focus on Jesus - who died on the cross, and rose again, to become the author and the perfecter of our faith.
I have a tiny puppy and, on our walks through the town, I noticed she was completely freaking out every time a noisy motorbike roared past. I needed a strategy so that she wouldn't one day bolt into the road and get herself killed. So we started working on, "Look at me." Every time an ear-splitting bike sped past, I'd say, "Look at me," and reward her when she did.
Now we're almost there. I don't even need to say it any more, but eight times out of ten if a scary motorbike roars past, she stops in her tracks and turns calmly to look at me.
What a difference it would make in our lives if we would stop in our tracks and fix our eyes on Jesus whenever something hard or intimidating comes along! As we remember on this Easter Day, His death and resurrection are the reason for our victory.
